Northern China Eatery vs. La Mei Zi Doraville

This week, we visited Doraville, GA, to see who has some of the best Chinese cuisine. Northern China Eatery became a viral restaurant on TikTok late last year. With wait times over two hours, the question, “Is this food worth it?” came to mind. Going on a weekday is a better option to bypass long wait times on the weekend, though you may not be able to avoid Atlanta traffic. The restaurant is a small family-owned business in Doraville for over 20 years. The owners immigrated from the Hebei region in Northern China in the 80’s. The restaurant is small and intimate; you can even see the employees rolling their handmade dumplings behind a pinging, which feeds into the restaurant’s traditional elements. The service was excellent. I felt welcome, and the servers were very attentive.
Regarding food, I ordered beef and carrot dumplings, stir-fried chicken garlic sauce, and stir-fried green beans. The flavor was great; the flavors that stood out were ginger and citrus. I spent a total of $56.34 for three large portion sizes. Regarding the neighborhood favorite, La Mei Zi Asian Bistro was a good choice. The restaurant has been in the Doraville area since 2001, and it is 1 minute away from Northern China Eatery. To compare, I wanted to get similar dishes. I ordered the spicy chicken sichuan, pork dumplings, and stir-fried string beans with pork, totaling $53.67. This restaurant focused on spicy as far as flavoring. As someone who enjoys spicy, I did find it a bit overwhelming. “I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing both of these restaurants for my TikTok.” said Alexus Rebecca a popular restaurant reviewer with 82.2k followers on the app. “I think they both bring unique flavor to the Asian cuisine space. I really wanted to try Northern China Eatery because it got so popular and the did not disappoint.” Overall, Northern China Eatery went viral for a good reason it was well worth the hype.
